The Salt Trek Bhutan is a unique 8-day trekking adventure that follows an ancient trade route once used by villagers to transport salt and silk from Samdrup Jongkhar to the eastern districts of Bhutan. Salt Trek Detail Itinerary for 9 Days

Day 1: Guwahati – Samdrup Jongkhar Distance: 103 km | Driving Time: 3 Hours | Altitude: 173 m

Arrive at Guwahati International Airport and drive to Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan’s southeastern border town. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax. If time permits, explore the local market and experience the unique atmosphere of this border town. Overnight at hotel.

After breakfast, explore Samdrup Jongkhar briefly before driving towards Nelang near Deothang, the starting point of the trek. Begin a short walk through the surrounding landscape and enjoy the peaceful natural setting. Overnight at campsite.

Begin the trek with a descent towards the Duri River. Follow the river trail and cross it several times using traditional log bridges before reaching Duktsiri for lunch. Continue along the river to Radingphu, a beautiful open campsite beside the water. Overnight at campsite.

Today involves a steep climb towards Dotak and then Mongling. Walk through forests and pass Zerim, where you can enjoy beautiful views of Deothang Valley. Continue via Regonpo to Mongling and settle into camp. Overnight at campsite.

Descend gradually from Mongling towards Demrizam through forests and farm areas. If time permits, visit Yongla Gonpa and the nearby Jangchup Chorten, offering an insight into the region’s spiritual traditions. Overnight at campsite.

Continue the trek with a gradual ascent to Tsatshi Danri for lunch, followed by a descent towards the Tonglingdrang Suspension Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue along the Khaling River to Denchung. Overnight at campsite.

Follow the Khaling River to Liza for lunch before beginning a steep climb through beautiful pine forests. Continue towards Cheya, located near the scenic Cheya Tsho, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Overnight at campsite.

Complete the final section of the trek towards Khengthogmani, where a vehicle will meet you. Continue by road to Trashigang and relax after completing your trekking adventure. Overnight at hotel.

After breakfast, drive back towards Guwahati Airport for your onward flight. Your guide and driver will assist you throughout the journey. Your memorable Eastern Bhutan trekking adventure concludes with wonderful memories of Bhutan’s nature, culture, and local hospitality.
