Tergo-La Trek in Haa is one of the most beautiful and must-hike trails in Haa. The trek starts from Haa and ends at Haa. The relative inaccessibility of Bhutan and the need for tourist passes means its trails are unspoiled and ripe for exploration. Tergo-La Trek, in the Haa Valley, is one of the country’s lesser-known routes.
This guided trek rises from 3,500 meters to 4,135 meters, passing through peaceful forest paths and up wild mountain tracks, with views of Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world. Yak herders’ camps and distant villages add to the sense of being in another world.
Haa Pick and Haa Drop.

Our trek begins today. We start the trek either from Tergo La pass or from Mekochang. We walk gradually through rhododendron and rocky paths to Leokarmo. We will be greeted by panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga – the 3rd highest peak in the world (as well as Mount Jomolhari and Gangkhar Puensum on a clear day) from Leokarmo at 3900m. Camp at Yajeythang, surrounded by Rheum Nobile – giant flowering rhubarb plants peculiar to the Himalayas.

We begin our trek after breakfast. After about 3 hours we reach Dutshathepa Pass at 3965m. We continue our journey through streams till we reach Yak herders Camp near a beautiful crystal clear Lake where we will have our Lunch.
From here we gradually make our way towards Tshoijam where we divert from the main trail to reach our campsite for the night.
Distance:12 km| Time Taken-6 hours walk|Highest Altitude: 4000m
Day 3 of the trek is our exciting day as we begin our beautiful trek. We follow the rocky path till we reach Lake Gotsho at 3883m. We should maintain silence as the Bhutanese believe that if we disturb the lake we might lose our path.
From here we continue uphill for a couple of hours to Gonphutan pass at 4154m where if the weather is clear you will have great views of the snow-capped mountains. This is a challenging climb on a rough and rocky trail that has hardly been used until now. After reaching the pass we have a descent of around 40 mins to the lake at Tshelu Tshoka where we camp for tonight. Overnight at Camp.
Distance:11 km| Time Taken-6 hours walk|Highest Altitude: 4038m
Let us begin our day early as we have a challenging climb through the rocky trail. We follow the stream for about 2 hours and from there climb to Shepayzhey pass. The pass is about 4120m and it can be challenging to climb. The hardest climb offers you the best view and here we will be welcomed with a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains bordering China. Below you can also see a lake where we will camp for the night.
Rest day at Nubtshonapata Campsite after about 4 days of Trek. There is also another trek route from this place called the Nubtshonapata trek that takes a different trail. The campsite is filled with Yak herders and it offers the best opportunity to mix with locals and learn about nomadic life.
There is also a lake which takes about an hour up to the ridge from where you see Mount Kanchenjunga and other nearby mountains. Overnight in camp (4038 meters)
Distance:11 km| Time Taken-6 hours walk|Highest Altitude: 4112m
Our journey today will be challenging as we cross some high passes starting with Tshajayla pass at 4112m and then Gangchula pass at 4018m. From here we make our way down to a stream, which we will cross, and after about an hour’s walk, we reach our campsite at Womji. Overnight in camp
