Dagala Trek Detail Itinerary for 11 Days

Day 1: Arrival at Paro International Airport (Altitude: 2,200m)

Welcome to Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon! Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, one of Asia’s most scenic airports, our representative will warmly receive you and provide a brief orientation about your journey. If flights are booked through us, we will try our best to arrange suitable seats for breathtaking Himalayan views during the flight. Later, explore Paro town and enjoy your first glimpse of Bhutanese culture. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city. Begin your adventure with a hike on the newly opened Takin Trail, a perfect introduction to Bhutan’s natural beauty. In the afternoon, visit Simply Bhutan Museum to experience traditional Bhutanese music, dance, and culture with local performers. Later, visit Simtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s oldest fortresses. Dinner and overnight stay in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive towards Genekha Village, the starting point of the famous Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek. Enjoy the beautiful countryside views along the way. Upon arrival, meet your trekking team and prepare for the exciting adventure ahead. Overnight camping at Genekha.

Begin your trek through beautiful forests filled with birds and peaceful surroundings. The trail gradually climbs towards Gur Village, offering stunning views of Bhutan’s landscapes. Enjoy the calm mountain atmosphere and overnight camp.

Continue your trek towards Labatama through alpine meadows and scenic mountain trails. Along the way, enjoy views of beautiful lakes and keep an eye out for Himalayan wildlife like blue sheep and other mountain species. Overnight camp at Labatama.

Spend the day exploring the breathtaking Dagala region, known for its beautiful high-altitude lakes and peaceful landscapes. Enjoy a picnic beside the pristine lakes while taking in the incredible mountain views. Overnight camp.

Leave behind the beautiful lakes and continue trekking through the Dagala range. The trail offers spectacular valley views and opportunities to spot Himalayan wildlife, including blue sheep and Himalayan monal. Overnight camp at Panka.

On the final day of trekking, descend towards Talakha Monastery, a peaceful spiritual site offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. After completing the trek, drive back to Thimphu and relax in the comfort of your hotel. Overnight stay in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive towards Punakha via Dochula Pass, where you can enjoy spectacular Himalayan views. Visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located between the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, followed by a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, the famous temple of the Divine Madman. Continue to Wangdue for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive back towards Thimphu. Visit Buddha Point, home to one of Bhutan’s largest Buddha statues with beautiful views over the valley. Later, continue to Paro and visit Simply Bhutan Museum for a final cultural experience including traditional performances and archery. Overnight stay in Paro.

Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek is a scenic high-altitude trek near Thimphu, famous for beautiful alpine lakes, yak pastures, wildflower meadows, and panoramic Himalayan mountain views.

The trek usually takes around 5–6 days depending on the itinerary and trekking pace.

The highest point of the trek is approximately 4,300–4,700 metres above sea level, depending on the route taken.
