Domkhar Festival Tour 2026 Detail Itinerary

Day 1Arrival at Paro International Airport and drive to Thimphu| Distance 65 kms| Driving Time: 1.5hrs. / Altitude of Thimphu: 2350

Upon arrival our team will receive you at the airport. Its a customary for Bhutanese to receive any guest with white scarf. The scarf is sign for respect and used for promotion, welcoming guest and ceremonies like Birthday Party, Wedding and baby shower etc. Upon receiving you you will be briefed about the tour program by the guide who will accompany you throughout your stay in Bhutan . The drive takes about 1 hour from Paro to capital city. Enroute visit  Tachog Lhakhang which is 30 minutes drive from Airport and located on a small hilltop across Paro river. At Thimphu, visit National Memorial chorten, Takin Preservation Center and Buddha Dordenma Statue.

Day 2Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing |Altitude 2,320m

Explore the cultural heart of Thimphu by visiting iconic landmarks such as Tashichho Dzong, a majestic fortress and administrative center, and the Folk Heritage Museum, which offers insight into traditional Bhutanese rural life. Visit the Traditional Arts School to see students practicing Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. Stop by the National Library, which houses ancient Buddhist manuscripts, and the Royal Textile Academy, showcasing the art of Bhutanese weaving. Day 3Thimphu to Punakha Tour Distance 72 km| Driving Time 2 hrs. | Altitude 2400m

After an early breakfast, begin your journey to Punakha. On the way stop at Dochula Pass which offers a breathtaking blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Upon arrival, visit Chimi Lhakhang  also known as Fertility Temple. Explore the longest suspension bridge, followed by a visit to the majestic Punakha Dzong. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 4Punakha to Bumthang via Trongsa (Alt. 2,600m | Distance: 220 km | Drive: 8–9 hours

Today is a long but scenic drive to Bumthang, passing through the central highlands. Stop at Trongsa to visit Trongsa Dzong, the ancestral home of Bhutan’s royal family, and the watchtower museum. Continue to Bumthang valley, known for its spiritual importance and picturesque landscape. Overnight stay in Bumthang.

Day 5 Attend Domkhar Tsechu Festival – Bumthang Sightseeing |Altitude2,600m | Distance: 30 km round trip

Drive to Domkhar village to attend the Domkhar Tsechu Festival, held at the historic Domkhar Lhakhang. Enjoy vibrant mask dances, traditional music, and religious rituals performed by monks and locals. Witness the community’s deep devotion and rich culture. After the festival, explore nearby monasteries such as Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang. Overnight stay in Bumthang.

Day 6Bumthang to Phobjikha Valley |Altitude 3,000m | Distance: 188 km | Drive: 6–7 hours

Leave Bumthang and head to the serene Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley famous for its scenic beauty and the endangered black-necked cranes . Visit Gangtey Monastery, one of the oldest Nyingma institutions in Bhutan. Enjoy a peaceful evening in this quiet, nature-filled valley. Overnight stay in Phobjikha.

Day 7Phobjikha to Paro |Altitude 2,200m | Distance: 190 km | Drive: 6–7 hours

Begin your return journey to Paro with scenic views along the way. Stop for lunch in Thimphu before continuing to Paro. On arrival, relax at your hotel or take a short walk through Paro town to explore shops and cafes. Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 8 Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery |Altitude 3,120m | Hike: 4–5 hours round trip

Today, hike to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. It is one of the most sacred sites in Bhutan. The trail passes through pine forests and offers stunning views. Spend time exploring the monastery and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Return to Paro for rest. Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 9Paro Local Sightseeing |Altitude 2,200 m

Visit the historical Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum (Ta Dzong), and the sacred Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon or optional traditional hot stone bath. This day gives you time to reflect and unwind before departure. Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 10Departure from Paro
