Thimphu Tshechu Festiva Detail Itinerary for 7 Days

Day 1: Arrival in Paro To Thimphu I Distance: 55 Km I Driving Time : 1.5 Hours IAltitude: 2320m

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. From there, enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital, following the beautiful Paro and Wang Chhu rivers. Along the way, take in the breathtaking mountain landscapes and traditional villages. If time permits, visit the Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, and then explore the lively Craft Bazaar before finally checking into your hotel for an overnight stay.

Spend the day at the vibrant Thimphu Tshechu Festival held at Tashichho Dzong. After that  Witness sacred Cham mask dances, traditional music, and colorful cultural performances while joining local devotees gathered to receive blessings. In the evening, stroll through Thimphu town and experience Bhutan’s warm hospitality.

Discover the cultural highlights of Bhutan’s capital. Begin your day by visiting Buddha Dordenma, followed by the National Memorial Chorten. Next, explore the Motithang Takin Preserve and the Traditional Arts & Crafts School to gain insight into Bhutan’s rich heritage. Finally, end the day by strolling through the local market and artisan shops, where you can experience authentic Bhutanese handicrafts and local culture.

After breakfast, begin your scenic journey across the spectacular Dochula Pass (3,100 m), where panoramic Himalayan views await on clear days. From there, continue to Punakha to visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong and then enjoy a walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan. Finally, check in to your hotel and enjoy an overnight stay in Punakha.

Drive back to Paro through beautiful mountain scenery.

Enroute, stop at Simtokha Dzong before continuing to Paro. Visit the sacred Kyichu Lhakhang and spend the evening exploring Paro town, known for its charming cafés and traditional handicraft shops.

Today, begin your day with Bhutan’s most iconic hike to the breathtaking Tiger’s Nest Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliffside overlooking the Paro Valley. Afterward, descend and relax in Paro town or visit local cafés before your final night in Bhutan.

What is the best time to book the Thimphu Tshechu Tour

Therefore, it is recommended to book at least 3–6 months in advance, as festival dates are among the busiest travel periods in Bhutan

However, photography is permitted in most outdoor areas of the festival. Nevertheless, some religious ceremonies or temple interiors may prohibit photography. Therefore, always follow your guide’s instructions.

Additionally, comfortable and modest clothing is recommended. Since the festival is a religious event, clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is appreciated.

The hike is of moderate difficulty and takes about 4–6 hours round trip. Visitors who prefer not to hike can relax at the viewpoint or enjoy sightseeing in Paro.
